When your kids are young and you're taking them around trick-or-treating, you don't think about the future days when everyone will be doing different things for Halloween! It's kind of sad that we are in five different directions on Halloween, but, honestly, it's also happy, because everyone is out having fun and celebrating one of our favorite times of the year. The kids have fun things to do with great friends, so we aren't complaining--too much! And I was thankful that this year our whole family could be together for the Ward Trunk-or-Treat, including Nana, so that's a plus.
This year we tried out the Rampart Trunk-or-Treat with Cami and the little boys. It was entertaining seeing all the high school kids dressed up and manning their decorated trunks. They seemed to really get into it and enjoyed seeing the little kids in their costumes. The soccer team had a fun set-up where the trunk-or-treaters had to score a goal to get their candy. Unfortunately, we just missed Zac when we got there. He had to run into theatre to practice for opening night of the fall play.
Nana, Papa and I joined Tommy for the annual AIES Volksmarch. Luke had 5th grade buddy responsibilities, so he needed to walk with his 1st grade partner. I tried to get a photo of him singing the school song to kick off the march, but he was being a rascal and kept ducking behind the person in front of him, so all I have is his hair and ear behind and to the right of the little girl in pink (Lydia). Haha, stinker, I caught you--well, your ear at least!
It was a good thing that on Halloween night we had our very own professional makeup artist visiting, because we put Grandma to work creating the Big Bad Wolf, a skull, a ghost, a minion and two guys who looked like they had been in a fight (Adam and my dad)! Zac and Ben went to our friends house, the Weitzels', to help with their big themed-walk-through they do every year for trick-or-treaters. This year's theme was "Storybook Land," so Zac played the part of Snow White's (Marie's) Prince Charming, and Ben was partnered with Red Riding Hood, Emma, and the Woodsman, Marcus, as the Big Bad Wolf. They had so much fun! Josh (Day of the Dead Skull) had some buddies over and they took on the neighborhood by themselves then came back to the house to swap candy and play Mario Kart. Luke (our ghost) had Cooper (the Grim Reaper) come over and they walked around with Tommy (Dave the Minion), Adam and the grandpas, while Grandma, Nana and I held down the fort. With Halloween on a Tuesday, it was not too late a night for us all, which allowed the adults a bit of time to catch an episode of Stranger Things 2 to finish off the night.
Hooray for a happy Halloween!!
