Today was the day Zach got his braces on. He's a little sore, a little achy, but he just looks so dang cute! On our last visit into the ortho Zach was shown his rubber band options. And in the three weeks since that visit he has had to make the difficult, no, make that gut-wrenching and brain-busting, decision of which colors he wanted for his first round. The final verdict: electric green and black. So for his soft, mushy, no-chew, braces-friendly dinner tonight he had vanilla yogurt...with green and black sprinkles. Once the braces were on they showed Zach videos on how to take care of them, how to brush them and keep them nice and clean. And then they showed him what his teeth would look like if he did not follow these cleaning instructions precicely. Tonight it took a team effort a full 10 minutes to get those babies sparkly and shiny to Zach's specifications. As Adam's brother Aaron, who had a couple of long terms with braces himself, called after us while we ascended the stairs tonight with the braces cleaning kit in hand, "Day One."

That seriously is the cutest brace face I've ever seen! He is going to be quite the ladies man here in a few years... You have a NINE year old!! Look how old and cute he is!!
Ah. braces. I hope he keeps up his cleaning perserverance!
Maybe this is an advantage of getting them done early (nine??) - still too innocent to argue with the cleaning regimine. By middle school, most of us have figured out the world will not collapse if we don't stick with it... Hated braces - really hoping my kids got Scott's teeth.
Oh, the joys of braces. I spent a few years wearing them, and a few years putting them on people. He looks great in them!
p.s. my dad makes retainers, so when the braces are done, and if he wants a way cool retainer (glow in the dark, special pictures, ect), call me.
Seeing Zach's braces makes me wonder: Why do braces look so much cuter on kids than grown-ups? How come no one made ME watch a how-to cleaning video? And, they don't bother to ask what color elastics I want, either! :) Go figure.
