Zac Starts His Next Chapter

The last weekend of July was precious, exciting and very difficult.  It was time to take Zac to college.  This is what we want for our kids; what we plan for, hope for and desire--for them to go out into the world and make their own life when they are old enough, but MAN, it is HARD on parents' hearts!

We loaded the car up with most of Zac's worldly possesions and headed to Provo, Utah, for Zac to begin the next chapter of his life.  He was so excited, it was hard not to catch the joy.  We were really happy for him, and really sad for us.  It helped to know that he was just where he was supposed to be.  Everything leading him to his life as a Cougar just happened to fall right into place.  Being accepted, when his GPA was not even close to the average incoming GPA, finding out that they had his major, Cybersecurity, as a new Bachelor of Science, a scholarship that helped give us a break on the cost...it was really meant to be!

We had one full day in Provo with our boy.  We did all the things: visited campus and found his classes, helped Zac figure out where everything was, and ran around town getting last-minute things, like a huge container full of snacks from Costco, BYU Blue hair gel for games, and a 4-inch thick memory foam mattress pad for his new bed.  We squeezed the joy of Zac out of every minute, literally.  I squeezed that kid so many times!

And then it was time.  We woke up in the morning and drove him to campus.  We helped him set up his room.  We met his roommate, Connor, that Zac had texted with all summer.  We got a few more things at the store.  We had a Bahama Bucks.  And then we dropped him back off at his dorm.  As we drove away, he stopped to wave and it was the best/worst thing ever.

He was happy.  He was glowing. he had plans with some of the guys from his dorm already to attend that night's welcome dance. We knew he was going to do great, because he had everything he needed woven into his heart, soul, mind and body.

As for Adam and I...a friend of mine said that she and her husband named the canyon that drives out through Spanish Fork to head back to Colorado Springs the Canyon of Tears, after they dropped 3 kiddos off over the years at BYU.  This name held true for us both.
