Not a one of us had an easy time waiting for the arrival of our Spring Break California road-trip! Adam had been away in Oregon on business for the week, so we left a day later than we had originally planned, therefore we decided to drive it all in one day. Just a tad over 16 hours. Crazy, but we really just wanted to get there! And actually, it wasn't {too} horrible. The boys, as usual because they are used to it, were great road warriors, and we picked up an hour with the change of time zones, which helped quite a bit, psychologically. Our tushes were probably a little flatter, but no one was clinically insane by the time we arrived in the desert just before 11pm. The best part was going to sleep, our heads on our pillows in Rancho Mirage, knowing that we did not have to get in the car the next day to drive again. The pool was ours!
We couldn't have ordered up better weather, and our first two days in California were spent in blissful laziness and pool play under the hot desert sun. There is a peace and tranquility we feel when we are in Rancho Mirage that reminds me of the feelings I have while visiting the Conlin Cabin: like we are living out the best days of our lives in these places. This trip mingled additional tender feelings, as memories and reminders of my grandma surrounded us.
We were incredibly excited to get out to the coast to introduce the boys to their baby cousin, Kai, but we needed a couple of days out of the car. It was nice having just our, ahem, *little* family there, with no schedule to adhere to, other than finding a few spare moments in the day to eat some grub and a loose definition of 'bedtime.' {sigh}
