Last night Ben ran in the Landsharks Citywide Celebration run. It includes kids from two different Colorado Springs school districts who have qualified by running the mile-and-a-half in less than 15 minutes. It was at Bear Creek Regional Park, which is not close to our house, and we failed to give ourselves enough driving time, so in classic Chaos style, we arrived minutes before Ben's start time. But he was ready to run, and after a few stretches, he found his place at the starting line. He had a great race! We could tell he was having a fantastic time and worked so hard throughout the run. Because they ran the grades in heats it was hard to know where he was placed because he was catching up to the slower 6th, 5th and 4th graders, but we did see the first place third grade finisher as he streaked by in a blur, with Ben not too far behind him, grinning ear to ear.
Ben finished the mile-and-a-half course in 10 minutes, 19 seconds, placing second in the third grade boys race. Ben, Adam and I decided that not only is the third grade kid who placed first a rock star and incredibly fast, but we believe he is also part robot. :) Ben, who is not cyborg at all, although one of the other moms of a kid on Ben's team keeps asking me if he's bionic, was amazing and we are so proud of him and his running accomplishments. He felt fantastic, although tired, and was jived up the rest of the night over his success and the joy of the race! YOU are the rock star, Benny! Congratulations!

That is totally amazing! Wow! Go Ben! I remember with fondness the days when I could run that fast, but I'm quite certain he will eclipse my lifetime PRs as he gets older. :)
Way to go Ben! you are a rockstar!
