Kai

My sister, Leah, had her first baby midday on February 1st. So teeny tiny at only 6 pounds and 19 inches. He is beautiful and so deliciously cute! I adore him and I haven't even met him yet! His name is Kai Presley Lewis, and I think he is perfection. I get to go visit him this weekend...and I cannot wait!

Tommy and Luke were playing Santa and kid on Christmas morning:
Luke: Tommy you need to go to sleep or you will get coal for Christmas. That's a big black rock. Go to sleep so Santa can come. Do you want coal for Christmas?
Tommy: Yeah!!!
(I guess a big black rock sounds pretty cool to a 3yo!)

Had a good laugh tonight when Luke (4) was asked by his frustrated dad why he ran out the door after his brothers when he was told to stay inside and he replied, "I thought it was opposite day!"

Luke has a very strong gag reflex, so sometimes when he gags on something he just throws up everything he just ate.

Mom: {totally calm and in control} You're OK! Stop barfing!

Mom: Cool! Did you know that show was on when I was younger? I watched it on Saturday mornings.

Mom: Alright guys! Time to get in the shower n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-now!
Ben: Mom, you sound like the Funk Soul Brothers!

After a discussion on "flirting" and "crushes" prompted by some girls' behavior at school:
Ben: I have a crush on Bethany.
Mom: Oh really? Why?
Ben: Because she is really good with all her numbers, and she always dresses pretty.
(I'm so glad he's attracted to brains and beauty!)

Mom: Good spot, Eagle Eye!
Ben: Well, no, Mom. I didn't really use my eagle eye for that, because it takes an hour to charge and only works for 45 to 60 seconds. And I used it today to find something for Mrs. Simmons.

After seeing a preview for Inkheart (a story in which a man brings books to life when he reads aloud) I told Zach we should read that book together and then see the movie.
Zach: "But we shouldn't read it out loud!"
It took me a moment to get it...clever kid!

Zach was having trouble falling asleep so mom tried to help him by describing some relaxation techniques.
Zach: "Sometimes when I am trying to fall asleep on a night when I got in trouble that day, I think about what I did wrong, and what I can do better next time."
Mom: "Awww, that's so sweet honey!"

"Oooh, can I put this on my Easter list?"
Dad replied, "I don't think the Easter Bunny accepts lists."

Zach: "Woah, Ben! Perfect timing!"
Ben: "Yeah, that's how I roll."

Dad: "No, Lukey, 'Dada'."

Josh, in his Sunbeam class a couple of weeks ago, was learning about the first man and woman on earth.
Josh's Teacher: "Does anyone know who the first man and woman on earth were?" Pauses for response. "Was it Adam and Eve?"
Josh: "No! It was Adam and Col-LEEN!" Said with a tone of complete exasperation, as if any fool should know this.

Zach is walking along a rocky ledge holding on to a rough wood railing:
Grandma: "Zach I am worried that you might fall on the rocks and skin your knees or get slivers in your hands."
Zach: "Don't worry, Grandma, I am really steady on rocks. I am kind of like a professional rock walker."

Josh: "Mom, my teeth are quite sticky." Said after consuming a delicious red lolly.

Josh is really into smelling things to see what they smell like (foods, lotions, anything he is curious about). The other day I was feeding Luke oatmeal with bananas and he asked for a smell. I said, "Sure," and was curious if he could smell the bananas so I asked him what it smelled like. He looked at me and said, "Mmmmm, farm fresh eggs!" What?!

Luke making himself laugh by making these "AH! Ohhh" sounds. He would go "AH! (chuckle chuckle) Ohhhh. (hee hee) AH! (heh heh heh) Ohhhh. (chuckle chuckle)." So funny!

Ben sometimes speaks as if he belongs in another time. Here is today's example: "Golly, Mom! This lego man I made is a fine little fellow!"

Josh recently got blisters on the back of his heels from too-small shoes, but apparently he thinks its the heels that are the problem, not the blisters:
Josh:"I can't play now, not until I don't have heels anymore."

Zach: "Mom, I would like a sleeping cap."
Me: "I don't think they make those anymore, they are kind of old-fashioned."
Zach: "But I have an idea of how to make one! Do we have any leather?"

Josh: "Mom! You look same like that lady in Lego Star Wars!"

Things Seen

While meeting with two of the other Cub Scout leaders, Luke was sitting and watching us from the stairs, quietly playing with some hershey's kisses that were in a birthday party treat box Zach had left on the stairs. Every now and then he'd get up and walk to the kitchen, and then return after a few minutes. Later I realized he was unwrapping the treats, popping them in his mouth and then taking the wrappers to throw out in the trash bin!

While working on homework with Zach outside on the front porch in the sunshine, Ben and Josh were riding bikes. Ben disappeared into the garage and came back out with Luke's tricycle and helmet. For the next 30 minutes he pushed Luke up and down the hill on his trike!

While rocking Luke to lull him for his nap I realized he was still sucking on a smartie I had given him as a treat. I fished it out with my finger, looked at it, realized I had nowhere to dispose of it, and popped it in my mouth. Sweet and moist...what was I thinking? Yuck! Isn't motherhood grand?

When a very starving Luke came back from Zach's basketball practice that he had gone to with Daddy, he saw me getting dinner on the table for everyone. He walked over to the "kids settings" drawer, pulled out a bowl, closed the drawer and walked towards me holding it out. Don't worry, buddy, I'm not going to forget you when getting dinner on the table!

Ben playing eeny meeny miney mo, and when he got "out" he pulled his elbow back and while moving his arm forward gave a snap, like awww, shucks!

Luke pulls Josh's hair. Josh says, "Stop it, Lukey." Luke pulls Josh's hair. Josh pulls Luke's hair. Luke begins crying. Josh says "Sorry, Lukey!" and gives Luke a big hug.

Josh hiding out under the coffee table (which is not the greatest place to hide, since he is clearly visible) sneaking a little snack of the hershey's kisses I leave by the door for potential buyers. Gotcha Josh!!
