The Bits: April 1st Through April 16th

First half of April Bits:
In early April, Josh was moved from a long cast into a short cast.  Although it was still a CAST, Josh could move his arm and fingers much more and was happy to be free.   At last, he could scratch his nose with his right hand again!

Surreal.
We arrived at the middle school band instrument selection night thinking Luke was walking out as a flutist, as he'd been talking about wanting to play the flute for over a year.  But then he tried the bassoon, and he was a goner.

One of the things I'm really proud of our PTO for this year is the amount of community outreach we've been able to do.  Through our efforts, over 500 gently-used books were collected and donated to Literacy on the Go, to help low-income families grow their home libraries; 33 bikes were donated to Kids on Bikes, providing bikes to children who's family cannot afford one; $824.91 was raised through our Book Fair Coin-a-Day challenge and was given to a Colorado Springs Title 1 school to purchase new books for their library (and it was matched by Scholastic to distribute to schools in need in the nation); 110 pairs of shoes were collected and donated to the Marian House/Catholic Charities for distribution to the homeless; $400 worth of P.E. equipment was donated to a different local Title 1 elementary school using a portion of our Lynx Laps raised funds; and through our Bald-4-Bucks tee-shirt sales we were able to donate $1,050 to Rampart's fundraising drive for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  It's been fantastic!
Such a pretty dinner!
That was a good one!

Spring in the Rockies: summer/winter/repeat.

Track season is on!  Up in Denver at meet no. 2, Ben set a new PR for his mile at 4:50.08.  He also PRed in his 800m, finishing in 2:16.61.

First drive out on the real roads!

Tommy's team started the soccer season with a W!  And...wait for it...Tommy had a goal!  If you have followed Tommy's "soccer career" at all, you know that this is kind of a big deal, since he's not a super aggressive nor fast player.  Go, Tommy!  Josh is helping Adam coach the team this season, and I hear from the coach that he's been really helpful!

Just a little perlering on a Monday night.

Ben took 1st in the 3200m at the Frosh/Soph Invitational in an excellent "who wants it more?" finish with a speedy time of 10:20.

Josh was accepted into the inaugural year of the MRMS Honors Band as first chair alto sax!

Pinewood Derby Day!  Tommy raced the "Purple Panda" in his first Derby and had a great showing, finishing in the middle of the pack.  Luke's "Ugly Sweater" took 3rd overall.  Nice work, boys!  Such a fun day for our Cubs.

The youth talent show was a lot of fun!  Zac played "Final Countdown" in a sax duet with Josh, sang "The Other Side" from The Greatest Showman with Nathan and performed a sing-off with the Laurels.  Ben played guitar for the chicken rendition of "Ho Hey."  In addition to the sax, Josh acted in a funny "Keep the Worms Warm" Deacon's Quorum skit.

Luke just loves the hair dryer.
And...the cast is off!  Freeeeeeeeeeeeedooooooooooom!
