September was a beautiful month, and October was setting up to be similar...except for October 2nd. That is the day Autumn decided to arrive. Just that one day. It was cold and rained all Friday long: shifting between heavy wet fog, to gentle drizzle, to downpour, off and on throughout the day. Of course. Losing. So we talked with Ben when he arrived home after school and asked if he wanted to postpone further (sending us into November and super sketchy weather possibilities) or plan for something else.
Ben's final birthday plan didn't leave much room for disappointment that we couldn't go camping. It was great! He asked for a nice dinner out with just Mom and Dad at P.F. Chang's, watching the new Avengers movie at home and then bouldering at Garden of the Gods as a family on Saturday. It was perfect, and ended up being a really great night out with our sweet 13-year-old, visiting Target to pick up the movie and then eating a delicious dinner of mostly appetizers at the restaurant, followed up by spending a nice couple of hours together as a family at the Snake Pits Bouldering Area at Garden of the Gods, or "Guardian of the God" as Tommy kept calling it. Plus, Tommy didn't have to miss his Saturday game and Zac didn't have to miss a birthday party he had been invited to on Friday night. Winning again!
We love our Ben so much and we are so happy to have finally celebrated him doing some things he loves!
| We went straight to Garden of the Gods from Tommy's soccer game and unfortunately forgot to bring him regular shoes. Whoops! Didn't slow him down though! |
